Downballot Progress endorses first five candidates for 2022 primary cycle
Candidates represent districts where progressives can advance their priorities furthest nationally
NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Downballot Progress endorsed its first 2022 state legislative candidates for office today. Kristen Gonzalez (NY SD 17), Fatima Iqbal-Zubair (CA AD 65), Illapa Sairitupac (NY AD 65), Jennifer Esteen (CA AD 20), and Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (NY SD 26) all received endorsements.
“After rigorous research, it became clear that these five individuals represented the best place for the progressive movement to put their time and energy,” said Amaury Dujardin, Executive Director of Downballot Progress. “Not only are these individuals fighting for Green New Deals, guaranteed housing, and single payer healthcare, but their districts overlap with other progressive elections as well, thus ensuring our volunteer efforts help turn out the progressive base up and down the ballot.”
The endorsement process was completed through researching current state legislative candidates, considering volunteer bandwidth, and final approval through the advisory board. While Downballot Progress acknowledges there are many great state legislators and candidates that are worthy of endorsements, the organization feels that endorsing these five candidates will do the most for the progressive movement on the national scale.
